Dr. Lister is Professor and Chairman of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center, the Robert L. Moore Chair in Pediatrics and the Pediatrician-in-Chief at Children’s Medical Center Dallas. He came to Texas in 2003, from Yale Medical School where he was Chief of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, and Professor of Pediatrics and Anesthesiology. He completed his undergraduate education at Brown University, received his medical degree and residency training at Yale University, and fellowship training at the University of California San Francisco.
Dr. Lister has served as the President of the Society for Pediatric Research and of the American Pediatric Society, Editor-in-Chief of the journal, Pediatric Research, Chair of the Board of Directors of the American Board of Pediatrics. He is a senior editor of the textbook, Rudolph’s Pediatrics, and has authored many scientific articles. He directed an NIH-funded training program in Critical Care Medicine, helped initiate the Student Summer Research Program, has participated actively in teaching programs in Eastern Europe, and served as the clinical director of the M.D. – Ph.D. program at Yale. He is a member of the Institute of Medicine and The Academy of Medicine, Engineering and Science of Texas.
Dr. Lister has a longstanding commitment to students, residents and fellows who wish to explore careers in medicine. He currently serves on the Innovation in Pediatric Education Executive Committee, a national group that is reassessing pediatric residency education in the United States. In recognition of the vast number of infants and children who do not have ready access to needed subspecialty services, he developed the concept for Texas PASS that was eventually approved and adopted by the Texas Heath and Human Services Commission in 2009.
